Dry and mild ahead of snow on Thursday

DENVER — Sunshine takes hold the next couple days in Denver, Boulder, Loveland and Fort Collins. Highs Monday reach 49 degrees.

The mountains stay breezy with sunshine on Monday and highs in the 20s and 30s.

Watch for a quick-hitting inch of snow overnight into early Tuesday in the central and northern mountains.

Colorado Weather: Historic Snow Totals Recorded In Fort Collins

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4) – As more than 15 inches of snow fell in 15 hours, Northern Colorado communities like Loveland, Timnath, Wellington, Estes Park and Fort Collins were brought to a halt. Roadways to Estes Park from Fort Collins and Loveland were closed due to heavy snow. The highway from Ted’s Corner to Wyoming was also closed.

The 15.5 inches of snow that were recorded in Fort Collins was the second most snow on record in Fort Collins in November.

Denver Weather: Biggest Snowstorm In Likely 3 Years Arrives Tonight

DENVER (CBS4) – A storm with the potential of making travel impossible in some areas will hit Colorado fast and hard late Monday before quickly exiting the state on Tuesday. A WINTER STORM WARNING starts at 8 p.m. Monday and continues through 5 p.m. Tuesday for all of northeast Colorado including the entire Denver metro area.

The storm is expected to bring at least 6 to 16 inches of snow to the Denver metro area and even higher amounts to the north areas north and northwest. The Fort Collins, Loveland, and Longmont areas and the foothills of Boulder and Larimer Counties could see close to 2 feet of snow in some areas.

Meteorologists agree: Fort Collins looking at foot of snow

You might roll your eyes, but the National Weather Service and many television meteorologists are calling for Fort Collins and surrounding area to receive around a foot of snow Monday into Tuesday, just as travelers will be hitting the roads and skies for Thanksgiving Day.

NWS has issued a winter storm warning for Fort Collins and much of the northeastern quadrant of Colorado for 8 p.m. Monday through 5 p.m. Tuesday.
